PO DELTA PARK
The Delta is divided in two parts: the young one called Active Delta and the old one called Fossil Delta. In the 1604 Venetians had practiced the Porto Viro cut, from which was born the Active Delta: it was an hydraulic deviation work ( land reclamation), that drove Po in the south direction. The work was made where now rise Taglio di Po (Cut of Po) and that name remind such event. Therefore Active Delta is the most recent land of Po, this area concern The Veneto Regional Park composed of five branch and other smaller once. From Po Grande or Po di Venezia to Po di Maistra (Po di Levante can not really called active branch, being regulated from the Volta Grimana closing). Po Piccolo or Goro, Po di Donzella or Gnocca and Po delle Tolle issue in the south direction.. The end of Po di Venezia is called Po di Pila, that in turn is divided in Busa di Tramontana) and Busa di Scirocco; in the cusp, sea direction, the river is called Busa Dritta)and it flows into Punta Maistra, where you can find the Pila Lighthouse. The Delta Fossile begin in the south of Po di Volano, where was the Po Delta in the Medieval Age. This area is not more crossed from active branches of the river and it preserves some damp zones as Bertuzzi and Comacchio Valleys. Valleys are today the rest of immense morasses, that covered the entire land till last century.
